NABET-CWA/NBCU NEGOTIATIONS
NEW YORK CITY
BULLETIN #9 - February 14, 2019
The NABET-CWA Network Negotiating Committee has reached an overall tentative agreement with NBC Universal on a new contract to replace the Master Agreement which expired on March 31, 2018. This contract package is the result of numerous bargaining sessions which took place over the past fourteen months in New York and Los Angeles – and the package has the unanimous recommendation of the Union’s Bargaining Committee.
The new contract, if ratified, will cover all NABET-CWA members at NBCU, including nearly 3000 staff and daily hire employees working as broadcast technicians in the studios, and in the field for NBC News, NBC Sports and NBC Entertainment. Also covered under the Master Agreement are building maintenance, air conditioning and plant maintenance personnel, staging services personnel, and couriers at various Company Network and TV station operations in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, and Washington D.C.
If ratified, the new contract will run through March 31, 2022.
Complete details of the tentative agreement will be made available within the next few days. This package contains a number of enhanced economic and benefits improvements for NABET-CWA represented employees. The general wage offer totals 8% in increases over the next three years (3%, 2.5%, and 2.5%), and becomes effective the first full pay period following ratification. Notable gains for daily hire employees include an increase in the daily benefit payment, as well as an increase in the Company matching contribution to the daily hire 401(k) plan. The package further provides for an increase in ‘travel-only’ pay for daily hires – $4/hour over the life of the agreement. In addition, staff and eligible daily hire employees will receive ratification bonus payments in amounts ranging from $500 - $1000 dollars.
NABET-CWA Locals 11 (New York), 31 (Washington, D.C.), 41 (Chicago) and 53 (Los Angeles) will be conducting ratification voting over the next few weeks, and the votes will be tabulated on March 20, 2019. The Locals will also be conducting membership meetings and providing further information on this contract package during the ratification process. We thank you for your solidarity and support during this negotiation process.
