Honoring the Memory of Our Brother, Wing Chung

Honoring the Memory of Our Brother, Wing Chung
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Following our recent notice regarding the passing of our brother, Wing Chung, I wanted to share a few additional thoughts as we honor his life and legacy. This tribute is especially meaningful to me personally. As a Chinese engineer who followed a similar path at ABC—serving as a Senior Video Engineer and now as Secretary-Treasurer of NABET-CWA Local 16—I recognize the significance of the trail that Wing helped blaze. Long before diversity became a focus within our industry, Wing was breaking barriers through his talent, professionalism, and determination, creating opportunities for those who would follow.
Wing began his career with ABC in 1978 as a Video Tape Maintenance Engineer. At a time when opportunities for Asian Americans in broadcast engineering were limited, Wing distinguished himself as one of the first Chinese engineers to work for the ABC Network. Through his skill, professionalism, and dedication to his craft, he helped pave the way for future generations of broadcast engineers and earned the respect of his colleagues throughout the industry.
Throughout his career, Wing exemplified the highest standards of technical excellence and union solidarity. His contributions to broadcast operations and engineering helped support the work that millions of viewers relied upon every day, often without ever knowing the expertise and commitment that made it possible.
In recognition of Wing's many contributions and in remembrance of his life, our union sent a floral basket to the funeral home on behalf of the membership. A photograph of the arrangement is included with this message.
Our Union President, Jim Joyce, attended the services to pay his respects and represent the members of Local 16 during this difficult time. His presence reflected the gratitude, admiration, and respect we hold for Wing and the lasting impact he made on both our union and our profession.
While we mourn the loss of our brother, we also celebrate a life marked by achievement, perseverance, and service. Wing's groundbreaking career helped open doors for others and strengthened the proud tradition of excellence that defines our craft. He will be remembered not only for his technical expertise but also for the example he set through his hard work, integrity, and dedication.
Please join us in extending our deepest condolences to Wing's family, friends, and former coworkers. May they find comfort in knowing that his contributions will not be forgotten and that he will always remain an honored member of the Local 16 family.
In solidarity on behalf of the NABET-CWA Local 16 Officers, Executive Board, and Staff,
Ka-Lai Wong
Secretary-Treasurer
