CWA Applauds Confirmation of New Labor Secretary Marty Walsh
Press Release - March 22, 2021
Moments ago, the U.S. Senate confirmed Marty Walsh to lead the Department of Labor. Walsh will be the first union member to be Secretary of Labor in nearly 50 years.
Marty Walsh is a trade unionist at his core and an excellent choice to serve as President Biden's Labor Secretary for working people during such a critical time.
Chris Shelton, President of the Communications Workers of America (CWA), issued the following statement in response:
“A trusted, experienced and effective union leader, Marty Walsh will be a critical member of the Cabinet and vital to ensuring that America’s working people have one of their own in the room and at the table every time a decision is made that affects their lives.
“President Biden has made it clear that during his administration, encouraging working people to join together in unions to stand up for themselves and improve their workplaces will be a top priority. We are confident that as Secretary of Labor Marty Walsh will carry out this mission.”
